''Miraculous Medicines Museum Trail''
Museum doctor Dr Brodie is in a bit of a pickle. People from the past are knocking on his door with all sorts of problems. Some have tummy aches, others have itchy skin, one has been bitten.
Dr Brodie knows that all sorts of historical cures can be found around the museum, but he's too busy to find them all himself!
Will you help Dr Brodie find the cures and help his historical patients feel better?
[[Yes, I can help]]
[[Maybe later]]"Excellent," says Dr Brodie. "Thank you very much!"
"What do you need me to find first?" you ask the doctor.
"First," says Dr Brodie "meet Ahhotep from ancient Egypt. Ahhotep, tell my wonderful helper what the problem is."
"I've got a bad headache," says Ahhotep. "As an ancient Egyptian I know that this is caused by evil spirits."
"To stay healthy in ancient Egypt," explains Dr Brodie, "they had good luck charms called amulets to ward off the bad spirits that made people unwell. I'm sure Ahhotep will feel much better if we can find her an amulet for good luck."
"I'll find you an object for good luck" you say to Ahhotep. "Where can I find one?"
"I'm sure I saw something like that downstairs in the museum," says Dr Brodie.
So you head off to look downstairs in the museum. You think the right kind of object is small and colourful. You find several objects that fit that description. Which one will help cure Ahhotep's headache?
[[Butterfly]]
[[Scarab beetle amulet]]
[[Shabti doll]]
[[Tea cup and saucer]]"That's ok," says Dr Brodie. "I can see you're very busy today too! Have fun looking around the museum."
He adds, "If you change your mind, you can come back and help me later."
[[Go back to the beginning ->Welcome]] A colourful butterfly lands on your hand.
"You're small and colourful," you say to the butterfly. "I'm sure you'll bring good luck to Ahhotep."
You take the butterfly back to Dr Brodie and Ahhotep and show them what you found.
"I do like butterflies," says Ahhotep, "but I don't think it will ward off bad spirits and cure my headache."
"Can you find something else downstairs that will help Ahhotep feel better?" asks Dr Brodie.

In amongst the artefacts from ancient Egypt, you spot a blue scarab beetle amulet with large wings.
"The scarab beetle was very lucky for the ancient Egyptians!" you remember. "This will surely help Ahhotep feel better."
You carefully pick up the amulet and take it back to Dr Brodie and Ahhotep to show them what you have found.
"Oh thank you!," Ahhotep cries. "The scarab is a very lucky symbol. This will ward off the bad spirits and my headache will soon be gone."
"Well done," Dr Brodie says to you. "The scarab beetle amulet you found will help Ahhotep feel much better."
"Thank you, Dr Brodie," you say. "What can I find for you next?"
[[Meet the patient from Ancient Greece]]
[[Meet the patient from the Medieval era]]
[[Meet the patient from the Stuart era]]You find the objects from ancient Egypt. Amongst them are small figures that look like people.
"Maybe one of these dolls will help fight off the bad spirits and make Ahhotep feel better," you say.
You take a Shabti doll back to Dr Brodie and Ahhotep and show them what you have found.
"That Shabti doll is from my time," says Ahhotep, "but they were to help people in the afterlife. I don't think they'll be able to help me with my headache."
"Can you find something else that can ward off bad spirits and help Ahhotep feel better?" asks Dr Brodie.

"That will help Ahhotep," you think. "When my mum is unwell, a cup of tea always makes her feel better!"
You take the cup and saucer back to Dr Brodie and Ahhotep and show them what you have found.
"A cup of tea would be lovely," says Ahhotep, "but it won't ward off the bad spirits and cure my headache."
"Perhaps after we've all stopped for tea, can you find something else that will help Ahhotep feel better?" asks Dr Brodie.

[[Shabti doll]]<</if>>"It's common name is Belladonna," you tell Dr Brodie.
"Are you sure?" he asks.
"I don't know now," you say, unsure.
"Well, let's see if Belladonna will cure Jason's sore throat," Dr Brodie says.
Jason opens his mouth, but no sound comes out. His throat is still sore.
"The plants name isn't Belladonna, I'm afraid," says Dr Brodie. "Belladonna is actually another name for Deadly Nightshade, and that is unlikely to help Jason feel better. Why don't you have another look and tell me what the plant's common name is?"
You go back to the Chrysanthemum plant and look for it's common name, before going back to Dr Brodie with the answer.
"Do you have the answer now?" he asks.

Jason opened his mouth, and "Thank you! I can talk again now and my throat is no longer sore."
"Excellent, excellent," says Dr Brodie.
"You did a great job of helping me," Jason says to you. "I'd love to tell you all about the doctors and cures we had in ancient Greece."
"I'd like that," you reply to Jason.
<<if visited("Meet the patient from the Stuart era", "Meet the patient from the Medieval era")>>"Perhaps another time," says Dr Brodie. "My friend here has been so helpful that all my patients have been treated."

"Next up," says Dr Brodie "I want you to meet Jason. He's from ancient Greece."
Jason looks at you glumly, but doesn't say anything.
"Jason has a sore throat and it hurts when he talks."
Jason nods in agreement.
"His throat is red and swollen, which makes it painful for him." says Dr Brodie. "I need you to find something that will help. We need a cure that will help with aches and pains."
"Wherever will I find something like that?" you ask. It's going to be a tricky job finding something to help Jason.
"There is a plant with small leaves. It's scientific name is Chrysanthenum," says Dr Brodie. "It has another name that most people use, but I'm afraid I've forgotten what it is!"
This will be a challenge, but one you're ready to face.
"Don't worry, Jason," you say. "I'll find something to help your sore throat."
[[Go Upstairs to find the Chrysanthemum plant.]]"You've been very helpful so far," says Dr Brodie. "I think you can help my next patient. Meet Matilda, who is from the Medieval era."
"Hello Matilda," you say. "How can me and Dr Brodie help you?"
"Hello," replies Matilda. "I have very painful joints when I move. I help out my family on a busy farm so I am always moving. There is a festival in my village soon and I want to be able to dance for it"
"As you can imagine," Dr Brodie tells you, "poor Matilda is in a lot of pain. We need something that will get her back on her feet and able to dance again."
"I've heard that the devil's toenails can cure joint pain," says Matilda. "Apparently you can find them buried in the ground."
This is confusing.
"I've never heard of devil's toenails before!" you tell Dr Brodie and Matilda.
"I think," says Dr Brodie. "That devil's toenails could be the fossils of sea creatures. This area was under the ocean millions of years ago. Devil's toenails must be fossils that are shaped like large, curving toenails."
"Sounds horrible!" you say. "But I'm sure I can find one!"
"Thank you," says Matilda. "If you can find some fossils, then I'm sure you will find a devil's toenail amongst them."
[[Look for the fossils Upstairs to find a devil's toenail.]]"The next patient that needs our help," Dr Brodie tells you, "is from the Stuart era."
"Hello, my name is Samuel," the Stuart man says.
"Hello, Samuel," you reply. "Are you feeling unwell?"
"I'm afraid that I have been bitten," Samuel says. "I was walking along a road at night and felt a pain in my leg."
"What was it that bit you?" asks Dr Brodie.
"I couldn't see anything in the dark," explains Samuel. "But my leg has become very red and sore."
"Oh dear," says Dr Brodie. "I think there might have been a bit of venom in the bite. But don't worry, I know a Stuart cure for venomous bites."
"I'm very glad to hear that," says Samuel. "What is the cure?"
"We need to find a special plant."
[["Can you help Samuel?" Dr Brodie asks you.]]You go upstairs in the museum and see a whole number of fossils of ancient sea creatures. Some are big and some are small.
"Do any of these look like big curvy toenails?" you think.
You look through the fossils and choose the one you think is right to take back to Dr Brodie and Matilda.
[[Ammonite]]
[[Gryphaea]]
[[Ichthyosaur]]
[[Trilobite]]
You see a oddly shaped fossil, it looks a bit like half a spiral.
"That looks a bit like it could be a devil's toenail," you say.
You take the gryphaea fossil to Matilda and Dr Brodie.
"I've found the fossil of a gryphaea," you tell them. "Will this help you, Matilda?"
"A devil's toenail!" says Matilda. "That will surely help me."
"An excellent find," Dr Brodie tells you. "Matilda will be dancing again soon."

You see a curved spiral fossil. It looks a bit like the shell of a snail. It is an ammonite fossil.
You take the ammonite fossil to Matilda and Dr Brodie.
"I've found the fossil of an ammonite," you tell them. "Will this help you, Matilda?"
"Oh dear," says Dr Brodie. "I don't think an ammonite fossil would help Matilda."
"It's a curved fossil, but it's not quite a devil's toenail," agrees Matilda.
"Can you try again?" asks Dr Brodie.
You return to the place where you found the fossils, and look again for a devil's toenail.

"Oh dear," says Dr Brodie. "I don't think a trilobite fossil would help Matilda."
"It doesn't look like a devil's toenail to me," agrees Matilda.

"I've found the fossil of an ichthyosaur," you tell them. "Will this help you, Matilda?"

"It was my pleasure," you reply.
"All my patients are cured and back in their own time," says Dr Brodie. "You've found all sorts of cures around the museum."
[[Back to the beginning->Welcome]]"I can try to help you Samuel," you say. "But I don't know of any plants that can cure venomous bites."
"I think you might," says Dr Brodie. "This plant is common in woods and hedgerows."
"I have heard of a man called Nicholas Culpeper," says Samuel. "He has written a book about how plants can cure all sorts of ailments."
"I've read that book," says Dr Brodie. "We need a plant that stings to help cure Samuel's leg."
"I'm sure I can find one of those," you say. "I'm not sure it will help, though."
"We will see once you've found it," says Dr Brodie mysteriously.
You find a number of different plants downstairs in the museum that could be what Dr Brodie is looking for.
[[Gingko]]
[[Holly]]
[[Membranous Nettle]]You find the special Chrysanthemum that will help Jason's throat feel better. You take it back to Dr Brodie to show him what you have found.
"You've found it!" Dr Brodie says. "Jason will be a chatterbox again in no time."
Jason smiles and nods at you.
"By the way," asks Dr Brodie. "What was the common name of the plant you found?"
[[Belladonna]]
[[Feverfew]]
[[Small Leaved Lime]]You find a gingko plant in the museum. It's a strange-looking plant, and you soon find out it didn't come from Warwickshire originally.
"Maybe this is the thing to cure a venomous bite," you think.
You take the gingko to Dr Brodie and Samuel.
"I'm sorry," says Dr Brodie. "This gingko is unlikely to help. Can you find another plant?"

You take the nettle to Dr Brodie.
"Excellent," says Dr Brodie. "Stinging nettles were used for all sorts of things in the past, including as a cure. We will boil it to take away the sting before using it, though."
"Thank you," Samuel says to you. "I'm sure Nicholas Culpeper would agree that a nettle is just what I need."
