''Terrific Tectonics Museum Trail'' Georgie the Geologist knew all about fossils. Georgie knew about dinosaur fossils, about plant fossils and about insect fossils. But Georgie had heard about another kind of fossil. These fossils were of animals that had lived under the sea in the Jurassic period. Georgie had never seen a fossil of a sea creature before but wanted to know all about them. So Georgie decided to set off and find a fossil of a sea creature. Will you help Georgie find a fossil in the museum? [[Yes]] [[Maybe later]]

"Thank you very much" says Georgie. "If you're going to help me find the fossil, you will need a compass." [[You have your compass handy and are ready to go]]

"I found a series of clues to help us find the fossil," says Georgie. "We'll need to use the compass to help us find our way." "I've been told that there is an ancient animal here at Market Hall - do you know who it is?" Georgie asks you. "That must be Oisin, the giant Irish deer - he's the most famous ancient creature at the museum" you say. "Great!" says Georgie. You and Georgie set off North East but soon meet a dead end. You and Georgie set off South East and soon bump into a large animal. First you see it's hooves and furry legs. You look up and see the body of a strong animal covered in soft brown hair. You keep looking further up and see a smiling face, topped by an enormous set of antlers. "Hello Oisin," you say. "This is my new friend Georgie the Geologist." "Hello again," Oisin says to you, "and hello Georgie!" "We need your help Oisin," you say. The giant deer looks down at you with concerned eyes. "How could an old deer help you?" Oisin asks. "We're looking for a very ancient fossil of a sea creature," Georgie explains. Oisin laughs and says "Oh, I've seen lots of those. Did you know that Warwickshire used to be under the sea? Once upon a time, this county was full of sea creatures." "Wow!" says Georgie. "I never knew that." "Can you tell us where to find the fossil of a sea creature Oisin?" you ask. "I don't know where any are exaclty, but I know someone who can help you" says Oisin. "You need to head North until you find a large animal with wings. Then head North East to find a much smaller animal. He'll help you - but I warn you - he's a bit of a prickly character!" "Wow!" says Georgie. "I never knew that." "Nor did I," you say to Oisin. "Warwickshire isn't under the sea any more!" "This was many years ago, long before my time even," Oisin tells you. "Warwickshire was under the sea during the Jurassic period." "The Jurassic period was about 150 million years ago," says Georgie. "Were there dinosaurs then?" you ask. "Oh yes," says Georgie. "But if Warwickshire was under the sea then there wouldn't have been any dinosaurs here. Dinosaurs are creatures that walked on the land." That's a shame, you think. Dinosaurs are very interesting. Oisin sees you looking a bit disappointed. "Don't worry," Oisin says. "The Warwickshire sea was home to all sorts of creatures and monsters. You never know what you might find." "But this area was under the sea millions of years ago," explains Georgie. "I'm sorry," says the swan. "I cannot help you. I would go East if I were looking for such things, but I'm quite content where I am." You and Georgie look at each other and shrug. "Well, I do know that Warwickshire moved North over time," offers the hedgehog. "Perhaps that will tell us the way to go next," you tell Georgie. "I'm sorry," the butterfly says. "We can't see any fossils from up there. Perhaps they are too small for us to see. But I did see my friend over in the South West. Perhaps they can help you." You and Georgie follow the compass South and climb upstairs. You soon find yourself facing West. "I think we should go South East from here," Georgie says. "Are you sure?" you ask. "We could also go North West." "In my clues, it says there is a helpful tool that we can find if we head South East from the stairs." You and Georgie head South East. There before you is a collection of musical instruments. On the left is a funny-looking blue machine with some bells on top. "Perhaps this can tell us where to go!" you say to Georgie. "I'm not sure," says Georgie. "This machine uses numbers rather than notes, and I don't know how that will help us." "Oh," you say. "So what is there in this room that can help?" "We'll have to look for it," says Georgie. "Aha!" you shout. "I've spotted something. I'm sure it will help us on our way." You take Georgie over to see the account book. "This is an old book of things that were bought by a library over 200 years ago," you explain to Georgie. "There might be a reference to the fossil of a sea creature in here." Georgie leans over and reads it carefully. The writing is small and difficult to read. There are a lot of odd words in it. "There's a lot of words here that I don't know," Georgie says, "but I don't think any of them talk about fossils." "That's a shame," you say. "There must be something here that can help us," says Georgie. You take Georgie over to see the Medieval pot. "Maybe this pot once held fossils in it," you say. "but it's all broken up." "Let's put it back together and see," suggests Georgie. You and Georgie start to put the pieces of the pot back together. It looks like a good pot, but there's no sign of any fossils. "I don't think this is going to help us," says Georgie. You take Georgie over to see the large tapestry hanging on the wall. On it, you see the names of lots of towns and villages, but there's something a bit different about it. "It's a map of Warwickshire!" says Georgie. "This is just what we need." "How will a map help us if we don't know where the fossils are?" you ask. "You often find fossils in the same place," explains Georgie. "If we can find somewhere where I know there are lots of fossils, then there's a good chance we can find a fossil of a sea creature there." "That sounds great!" you say. "Do you know of a place like that?" "There is a town called Nuneaton where you can find fossils," says Georgie. "Can you find it on the map? It might be spelt differently." "I've found Nuneaton," you call. "Well done!" says Georgie. "We're in Warwick now, so we need to head in the direction of Nuneaton. It's to the left Warwick on the map." "So we go West," you say. "I'm not so sure," says Georgie. "North does not appear to be at the top of this map." "Which direction do we go in then?" you wonder. "If you can find out which way north is on the map, it will help you find out where Nuneaton is." You and Georgie head North and find yourselves at the entrance to the gallery. "There aren't any fossils here," you say. "No, but I think I can see some," says Georgie. You and Georgie go North West and soon arrive at the Origins to Romans gallery. "There are lots of fossils here," you say. "Can you see any of sea creatures?" "There are lots of fossils of sea creatures here," says Georgie. "I'm sure I will learn a great deal from them." "That's good," you reply, and prepare to leave Georgie to study the fossils. "Before you go," Georgie says. "Can you help me? I would like to find which is the oldest sea fossil here?" "I'll find it for you!" you tell Georgie. You show Georgie the ammonite fossil you have found. It is a spiral shell fossil. "This ammonite is very old," you say to Georgie. "The ammonite is old," says Georgie, "but it's not the oldest fossil of a sea creature. You show Georgie the ichthyosaur fossil you have found. It is a piece of a skeleton. You see a whole ichthyosaur skeleton too, it looks a bit like a dolphin. "This ichtyhosaur is very old," you say to Georgie. "The ichthyosaur is old," says Georgie, "but it's not the oldest fossil of a sea creature. You show Georgie the trilobite fossil you have found. It looks a bit like an insect, made up of three parts. "This trilobite is very old," you say to Georgie. "It is very old," says Georgie. "In fact, it's the oldest fossil of a sea creature here. The trilobite is 500 million years old." "Wow!" you say. "That is very old, and it doesn't look like any creatures I've seen in the sea."
